The Joy of Knitting and Crocheting

If you are interested in knitting and crocheting you will find an enormous wealth of patterns and projects you can try. I have been doing both since I was quite young and I still enjoy this form of craft. If you have never tried either knitting or crocheting it can be quite helpful if a friend or family member does! This is how I learned many years ago. If not they do have step by step books which are available at your local craft stores or libraries. Some craft stores also offer classes which would be a good alternative if you have no one to help you learn and find books harder to follow. Once you learn learn the basic stitches and under stand the meanings of the directions you will be well on your way. Even though I have crocheted for years I do have a book which I keep on hand that explains various stitches and how to do them.

One of the projects that I have enjoyed making are a miniature snowman and santa clause which you can attach either an ornament hanger or a loop of yard to them and hang on the Christmas tree. Folks who come over during the holidays always ask where did I get them from and are pleasantly surprised when they find out I made them. These 2 items are crocheted and they also make excellent gifts.

There are also many books available in the craft stores which have patterns for each holiday throughout the year. Many items which I have made I have glued magnets on the back and can be placed on the refrigerator.
When we were kids we rarely wore store bought slippers. Our Mom always knit slippers for us and we still make them to wear today. They are very warm as you use 2 strands of yarn at once to make them. Using 2 stands of yarn also gives you endless possibilities when it comes to the color of the slippers. These slippers come in 3 sizes baby, children's and adults. They are a sturdy slipper and easy to care for.

Un-stable Stable - Marshall's Momma - Salt Lake City, UT
We purchased this last Christmas for my son. Within 6 months it was completely broken. The wooden beams that thread through the stable divider and go into the two main sides didn't stay in and got lost. And the beam at the top had plastic ends that snapped into holes on either side of the stable which broke in the hole and could not be used any longer. I felt it was cheaply made so returned it to the store I bought it at for a full refund. Ironically they no longer carry Plan Toys. I think overall Plan Toys are made well, the way the stable was made just affected the quality of this particular set. We are much more pleased with the Country Barn.

I happened to be in a local toy store (I'm a 39 year old man, but I collect Johnny Lightning cars) when just for the heck of it, I decided to stroll through the part of the store where they have these Bratz dolls. My eyes immediately focused on this doll with her oh-so-beautiful hot-pink legs, and the doll right next to her had orange legs! What a novel idea... if only I could get my gf to wear tights like those, she'd look even prettier than she does now. I recently inherited a few Barbies from someone close to me who passed away (hey, what are you laughing about? There's nothing wrong with a man collecting valuable dolls), and my only complaint about the Bratz I-Candy dolls is that they weren't designed with poseable legs.

Great bedtime friend - Ripken Fan -
Each of my three kids have one of these (in different colors)and they love them. We travel alot, and the bunnies go too. They are soft but not the furry plush, so they maintain their look. Machine washable also helps, too. Just throw them in a pillowcase. I love them and so do the kids.

Considering the amount of time he spends with Blue Bunny, they are probable pretty durable - I wash them about once a week. The great thing about him is there is nothing that can hurt my son on Blue. Christmas Movies - A Family Holiday Tradition

For some people, Christmas movies are as much a part of the holiday tradition as putting up the tree and opening presents. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than to curl up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn to watch them with your family. Whether you prefer the old classics or the more recent films, you are almost certain to find Christmas movies that everyone in your family can enjoy. 

No matter how many years go by, the old classic Christmas movies remain popular. Some of the favorites include Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, and White Christmas. While many of them have been redone using different actors and slightly varied story lines, they still hold the same charm. They really are a must see if you have never watched them. You can catch them every year during the month of December on several of the cable channels such as American Lifetime Movie Network. You can also purchase them in stores and online for a very reasonable price.  

In more recent years, there have been a slew of new Christmas movies released that have become just as popular as the classics, if not more so. Santa Claus the movie, ELF, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Home Alone are just a few of the more recent favorites. In addition, some of the cable channels, such as The Hallmark Channel and The Disney Channel, release new original movies every year during the holiday season.  

Although they are not considered Christmas movies per se, the classic animated holiday cartoons are always a hit with both children and adults. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, A Year Without a Santa Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas are timeless classics. There are also a few animated movies, such as The Polar Express that promise to be favorites for a long time to come.   

Christmas movies are a great way to spend time with your family during the holidays. It doesn't matter how old you are, unless you are the Scrooge or the Grinch, you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite.
