Fun-Filled Christmas Party Games Young Children Will Love Playing

There are countless options when you plan Christmas party games for young children. If you plan ahead and provide plenty of room to run, the children will always have a great time.

Candy Cane Relay

Relay races are always fun for everyone. A candy can relay starts with 2 teams. Each team gets 4 candy canes. Make sure you have some extra candy canes on hand in case they break. The child running holds the candy canes between their fingers, with the cane crook hanging over them. The thumbs should not be used so the candy canes carefully perched between the fingers.

The kids run to their teammate and exchange the candy canes using only their fingers. The teammate runs to the other end and does the same thing. The game is over when only one team has candy canes that did not drop to the floor.

Pass The Ornament And Christmas Relays

Pass the ornament is another cool relay kids really love. Each team gets one lightweight ornament and straws. The players blow through their straws to move the ornament down the line. As the ornament moves down, each child blows through a straw and continues to move the ornament down the line. Each child should have their own straw so nobody gets sick.

You can play a simple variation of this game by running a relay and using a Christmas item such as a stocking or Santa hat. To spice up this basic relay race, have the players wear the hat or stocking as they run before passing it on to the next teammate to put on.

Santa Says

The timeless game "Simon Says" is always a favorite with kids. The holiday version is Santa Says, with Santa giving commands to the players instead of Simon. Just like Simon Says, Santa says to dance or Santa say to jump up and down. Finally, you leave the "Santa says" part out to trick the children.

Christmas Freeze Dance

Children love to play freeze dance in preschool and kindergarten. Play your own Christmas freeze dance with kids to celebrate the holiday season. Turn on Christmas music while the children dance. When you turn off the music,all the children must "freeze". This is a great way to get young children moving to use up energy before sit-down Christmas party games.

Christmas Clue Game

Play a simple Christmas clue game with questions about familiar holiday favorites. Give the children a series of clues about a Christmas item until one of the players shouts out the correct answer. An example might be:

Answer: Rudolph
Clue: I'm thinking of an animal
Clue: He helps Santa
Clue: He is a leader
Clue: His nose is red

Continue to give the kids clues until they get the right answer. The younger the children, the simpler the clues should be so guessing is easy.

Frosty The Snowman Christmas Party Game

Toss games are another favorite among kids. Make a large cardboard cutout of Frosty the Snowman. Cut a hole in Frosty's tummy for a snowball toss. To create snowballs, put marshmallows in plastic bags or use foam balls from the craft store. Have the players stand back and throw snowballs into Frosty's belly. The first player to get 3 snowballs in the stomach wins a prize.
