Christmas Movies - A Family Holiday Tradition

For some people, Christmas movies are as much a part of the holiday tradition as putting up the tree and opening presents. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than to curl up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn to watch them with your family. Whether you prefer the old classics or the more recent films, you are almost certain to find Christmas movies that everyone in your family can enjoy.

No matter how many years go by, the old classic Christmas movies remain popular. Some of the favorites include Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, and White Christmas. While many of them have been redone using different actors and slightly varied story lines, they still hold the same charm. They really are a must see if you have never watched them. You can catch them every year during the month of December on several of the cable channels such as American Lifetime Movie Network. You can also purchase them in stores and online for a very reasonable price.

In more recent years, there have been a slew of new Christmas movies released that have become just as popular as the classics, if not more so. Santa Claus the movie, ELF, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Home Alone are just a few of the more recent favorites. In addition, some of the cable channels, such as The Hallmark Channel and The Disney Channel, release new original movies every year during the holiday season.

Although they are not considered Christmas movies per se, the classic animated holiday cartoons are always a hit with both children and adults. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, A Year Without a Santa Claus, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Charlie Brown Christmas are timeless classics. There are also a few animated movies, such as The Polar Express that promise to be favorites for a long time to come.

Christmas movies are a great way to spend time with your family during the holidays. It doesn't matter how old you are, unless you are the Scrooge or the Grinch, you are almost guaranteed to find a favorite.

Holiday™ Barbie® Doll

Holiday™ Barbie® Doll Review

I am way over the age of 13. I am 78 years of age but I still love to collect beautiful dolls and to display them during the Christmas holiday. I also collect the small Holiday Barbie dolls suitable for hanging on Christmas trees as I did one Christmas. Now I have 14 of those and a smaller tree so I display them on a turntable, all of them standing together like they are in a beauty contest right on my dining table.

Holiday™ Barbie® Doll Feature

  • 2008 Holiday Barbie doll sparkles in a shimmering white and silvery gown
  • 20th year anniversary of holiday Barbie
  • She wears a glitter-detailed gown with a tiered pleated skirt
  • Features beautiful chandelier earrings
  • The first holiday Barbie that resembles a silver snow flake

Holiday™ Barbie® Doll Overview

As the snowflakes fall, this 2008 Holiday Barbie doll sparkles in a shimmering white and silvery gown. Celebrating 20 years of holiday-themed Barbie dolls, she wears a glitter-detailed gown with tiered pleated skirt and chandelier earrings. Measures approximately 12" tall.

Holiday™ Barbie® Doll Specifications

The 2008 Holiday Barbie shimmers in a silvery creation designed to resemble a snowflake. Her chandelier earrings add the perfect elegant yet festive touch to the 20th anniversary Holiday Barbie. In a Nutshell: Fans and collectors of Holiday Barbies will be proud to add this Barbie to their collection

Barbie Shines for the Holiday Season
This is essentially the same, sturdy Barbie we all know and love, but she's beautifully decked out for the holidays. The only assembly required is putting her stand together. Though Barbie's gown looks delicate, with it's gauzy, snowflake-embroidered bodice and silver skirt, the material is tough and durable. Her long, dangly earrings, however, could see some damage during over-enthusiastic play with small hands. But they're removable, so you can take them out if you think your girl might lose or break them.

Living in a Winter Wonderland
The holiday Barbies are all about wintry elegance and style, and the 2008 doll is no exception. Barbie's sophisticated holiday hairdo cascades down her back in a mass of curls tied slightly to the side. The sheer bodice of her gown--the same one she wears in the "Barbie in a Christmas Carol" DVD-- is embroidered with shimmery snowflakes that match the silver of the tiered, pleated skirt.

A gauzy sash wraps around her waist and floats down the front of the gown. White slingback heels complete Holiday Barbie's breathtaking ensemble. For those who like to keep Barbie in her packaging, the 2008 design doesn't disappoint: a red foil background is decorated with ornaments and 3-D snowflakes suspended in midair.

Little Touches Make Barbie Fabulous
We love the little touches on this Holiday Barbie, like the painted red nails that match her lipstick, the ultra-thick lashes, and the drop earrings that dangle down past her shoulders. We also like the snowflakes that shimmer lightly on her dress as if they've just fallen from the sky. Her right arm is cocked permanently at the elbow so it looks like she's waving. You can also turn this arm so her hand is on her hip.

We could imagine however, that little girls might wish to bend the elbow into a normal position from time to time. And while Barbie's holiday gown manages to be both stunning and durable, her shoes are functional white plastic that don't really live up to the rest of the outfit (plus they're hard to put on). Fortunately, the shoes are hidden by the long dress. Overall, we think Barbie collectors and little girls alike will be thrilled to add this cooly fabulous 2008 Holiday Barbie to their collection.

The Dark Truth About Christmas Songs

Christmas time (i.e., any day after Halloween) is when your radio is filled with wholesome, spirit-lifting songs about family, faith, and a fat man in a red suit. But appearances can be deceiving. We often forget that Frosty the Snowman melts/dies at the end of his song. Or that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was probably one insult away from massacring his playmates. Many of the world's best-loved Christmas songs are nothing more than upsetting tales of death, helplessness, and despair. Take off your rose-colored glasses, because here is the ugly reality of some of your favorite Christmas songs:

HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS (written by Hugh Martin & Ralph Blane, 1944. Performers include Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and James Taylor)

The original version starts out with the gut-punching opening lyric, "Have yourself a merry little Christmas/ It may be your last." When Judy Garland nixed these lyrics as too depressing (the girl had instinct), the writers brightened it up a bit. Still, the final verses ("Someday soon we all will be together/ If the fates allow/ Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow") shows the song's harsh message: Let's enjoy this fleeting holiday while we can, because life is going to start sucking again real soon.

SANTA BABY (written by Joan Javits & Philip Springer, 1953. Performers include Eartha Kitt, Madonna, and Kellie Pickler)

First of all, this is about the sluttiest Christmas song in existence. It's about a woman flirting with Santa Claus so he'll give her money (whether said woman is a stripper is up for interpretation). A young attractive woman trying to woo a gross old man for money? Sounds like this could have been written by Anna Nicole Smith circa 1994. Madonna's 1987 version is particularly disturbing, from her Betty Boop-inspired vocalization to hearing her not-so-subtly ask Santa to "come and trim my Christmas tree." I know that quote is taken out of context, but it just sounds so dirty coming from Madonna.

I SAW MOMMY KISSING SANTA CLAUS (written by Tommie Connor, 1952. Performers include The Ronettes, The Jackson 5, and John Mellencamp)

The premise is that a boy comes downstairs on Christmas Eve to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus, but instead finds his mother making out with the man in red under the mistletoe. And we are led to believe that Santa is actually the boy's father dressed up, so it's all a jolly misunderstanding when the boy goes back to bed under the impression that his mother is a whore. But nowhere in the song does it explicitly say that "Santa" is actually the narrator's father. It could be anyone really. A neighbor with a fetish for red satin. An elderly Salvation Army volunteer. Or the real Saint Nicholas (he is real, right?). And even if it was the boy's father, so what? Walking in on your parents having sex is an awful enough memory, but seeing it happen on your favorite holiday is something that could ruin your Christmas memories forever.

DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? (written by Bob Geldof & Midge Urie, 1984. Performed by Band Aid, Band Aid II, and Band Aid 20)

Band Aid was put together by musician Bob Geldof as a charity group to raise money for African hunger relief. This depressing little holiday ditty became the anthem for the group, which originally included Bono, Sting, and George Michael. In 1989 Geldof recorded the song again with Band Aid II, which had Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, and Lisa Stansfield. And again in 2004, Band Aid 20 (including Chris Martin, Robbie Williams, and Joss Stone) made the song a hit.

And what's not to love? Oh right, the fact that the song contains some of the most depressing lyrics in any piece of music, let alone a Christmas song. Band Aid was here to let us know that people were starving to death in Africa, and because we are all enjoying Christmas goose and figgy pudding, we are all to blame. Because Sting let's us know that in Africa, "the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears." Thanks, Sting. Merry Christmas to you too. But wait! There's more! Good ol' Bono lays the guilt trip on even thicker when he tells us all that, "tonight thank God it's them instead of you." Yes, Bono. Exactly what I was thinking. Me making snow angels and sipping cocoa must mean that I'm thankful all the Africans are dying. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" is the musical equivalent to those dying puppy commercials with Sarah McLaughlin. There's nothing holly (nor jolly) about it.

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (written by Buck Ram, Kim Gannon & Walter Kent, 1943. Performers include Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Gloria Estefan)

Like starvation in Africa, this song is rooted in real life misery. Written during World War II (side note, is it just me or is co-writer Buck Ram way too aptly-named to not be a porn star?), this song was about a soldier's hope that the war will end soon enough for him to be home in time for the holidays. Okay, fair enough. Wanting to be with your loved ones is what the holidays are about. It's hopeful, it's touching, it's almost a happy song. But if that was the case, I wouldn't be talking about it. No, the hope comes crashing down with the last line, "I'll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams." So after all that, he knows he'll never make it home for Christmas. Spoiler alert?

PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (written by Charles Brown & Gene Redd, 1960. Performers include The Eagles, Jon Bon Jovi, and Aaron Neville)

Much like "I'll Be Home For Christmas", this song is a depressing realization of spending Christmas alone. This song makes you understand why Christmas is often cited as the time of year where depression and suicides rates go through the chimney. When the singer pleads "my baby's gone/ I have no friends" it hardly fills you with holiday cheer.

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN (written by J. Fred Coots & Haven Gillespie, 1934. Performers include The Four Seasons, The Crystals, and Bruce Springsteen)

Take some of the choice lines of this song and it looks more like a threatening letter from a serial killer than a holiday jingle: "You better watch out... He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake." Shiver.

BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE (written by Frank Loesser, 1944. Performers include Ray Charles & Betty Carter, Rod Stewart & Dolly Parton, and Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson)

This famous winter duet is what I like to refer to as "an ode to date rape." The premise? A woman is at a man's home. She wants to leave. He wants to have sex. He uses the weather as an excuse to force himself upon her. Don't believe me? Let's take a look at some of the "he said, she said" lyrics:

Woman: Really I'd better scurry.
Man: Baby, it's bad out there.
Woman: Say, what's in this drink?
Man: Mind if I move a little closer?
Woman: The answer is no.
Man: Baby don't hold out.

I'm sorry but even if I ignore the fact that he may or may not have slipped something in her drink, I think the phrase "THE ANSWER IS NO" should have been the big clue to back off. But what do I know? Apparently she was just playing hard to get. Guess no doesn't mean no after all. At least, not at Christmas.

What Makes Wonderland Online Click to Everyone of Any Age

When you hear the word Wonderland, the first thing that enters your mind is the story about a little girl named Alice stuck in a fantasy world. One might ask himself if there really is a Wonderland, a place where you can simply escape to and forget the real world's troubles. Actually there is.

As a part of the real world, I do know the hardships everyone is facing. But thanks to a game I recently discovered, I can actually forget my woes and enjoy life as it should. The game is called Wonderland Online and it really lives up to its name.

I have played computer games in the past which are totally enjoyable but Wonderland Online is literally incomparable to the other games I encountered. It brings together people of different ages, with different tastes, unique sense of style, different strategies, and a whole lot more.

So what makes it really click? Well, there are hundreds of reasons why a lot of people prefer playing Wonderland Online as compared to other online games. But let us narrow it down to the top best reasons I came up with.

Totally Free

Wonderland Online is an online game that is totally free to play forever. This is unlike other online games that require you to pay in order to play. This is one of the main reasons why Wonderland draws in a lot of players all over the world. People from different cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, and other aspects are learning from one another because they can socialize in the game. This has formed strong friendship bonds as well as some love connections between players.

MMORPG (3D versus 2D)

In the past, computer games are mostly made for single players but ever since the advent of internet, online multiplayer games became a reality. This enables you to play games with other players around the world. Most of the time, you can find MMORPGs in the modernized 3D graphics. There is nothing wrong with 3D games however not everyone is fond of playing these games. Some people complain about having headaches or nausea after playing them, only a few fraction of the game-playing community enjoy this 3D kind of games.

Wonderland Online caters to millions of players around the world because it is presented in highly enhanced 2D graphics. Both the young and the older generations are able to play it easily without giving them any illnesses afterwards. Unlike the typical 2D graphics, Wonderland Online developers use a unique computer language that brings about the rich vibrant colors, anime-like cartoons, and oh so lovable in-game characters.

All-In-One Game

Whenever developers make a game, they follow a certain agenda which is whether they are going to make it as a simulator game, an adventure game, or a role-playing game because they wanted the game appeal to specific kinds of players. Simulator games usually make you feel like you are in a real setting of a specific location. Adventure games are made for players who love to do some quests and explore different places. Role-playing games appeals to people who would like to pretend as if they are the in-game character.

Wonderland Online developers didn't follow this code of conduct. They made Wonderland Online an all-in-one game because the three aspects of game play are bundled up in it. As a simulator game, Wonderland Online brings you in a somewhat real world where you have to deal with different hardships one has to go through. It possesses drama, comedy, as well as tragedy just like us in real life. As an adventure game, you will be able to explore different countries, riding in different vehicles, doing some quests assigned to you, as well as discover the hidden secrets of ancient civilizations. As a role-playing game, you get to play the role of your chosen character that needed to get back to his or her homeland while saving the entire world from the impeding dangers set by the unleashed demons.

Unique Job Classes

Wonderland Online features four basic elements which include earth, wind, fire, and water as your character's attribute. Each element type is unique in its own way. Fire-built characters are great for melee and magic attacks, Wind-built characters have out-of-this-world speed, Earth-built characters are great supporters, while Water-built characters are equipped with magical qualities for support, reviving, and healing attributes.

You can also customize your character to either be a warrior or a mage. These are initially the job classes your character can obtain through your allocation of ability points every time you level up. When your character reaches level 100, you can be reborn to another six different job classes. Warriors can be reborn as Killers, while Mages can choose to be reborn as Seers, Priests,

There are some minor job classes every player can also choose to be, regardless of you being a warrior or a mage. You can be a crafter of weapons and armors, a fisherman, merchant, collector, and a miner. Everyone can have these skills by doing quests for different NPCs. These skills are upgraded depending on how much you use them.

Home Sweet Home

In Wonderland Online, you get to have your very own house which you can personally design with various furnitures and appliances. You can actually build these things with the use of the different manufacturing tools. All you have to do is collect the raw materials needed for each household interior decoration you are making. You can make beds, a garden patch, fence, TVs, game machines, desks, bookcases, bathroom furnishings, garage doors, gym equipments, and a whole lot more.

Travel Around The World

One of the greatest things I love about this game is the traveling function. You can actually make various kinds of vehicles such as a boat, jalor, steam ship, robot, UFO, spacecraft, hot air balloon, air plane, and so much more. These vehicles carry you to other countries known to our real world like Japan, China, Taiwan, some parts of South America, Egypt, India, and other places yet to be released in future versions of the game.

There are some modern vehicles as well such as the turtle car, a motorcycle, and a convertible known as cabriolet.

Human Companions And Other Pets

In some quests, you will be able to obtain different kinds of human companions that will help you fight monsters and get other quests done. They are also very important in some parts of the story as it unfolds before your eyes.

Various pets can also be obtained by playing the baby doll game in the Item Mall or by capturing one during battle. Some of the popular pets include Pandas, Polar Bears, Snowman, Horses, Fairies, and other cute monsters you encounter. You can even have your very express pet that can actually deliver up to 5 items to your other player friends in the game. This express pet function is great for players who are far apart from one another, say for example one is in Egypt and the other one is in China.

One of the greatest things about having a pet is the riding system. You can actually ride one of pets such as riding a horse, a dragon, and any other pets you choose to have.

Unique In-game Mail System

In the game, you will receive your very own email-like window that lets you send private messages to your guildmates, friends, and acquaintances. They will be able to receive your mails even when they're offline.

There are so many reasons why I love this game and I have so much more to share with you. Parents, children, adults, and teenagers all love to play this game. You should join us and experience tons of fun and excitement as well as some friendship bonds along the way. You can see the direct link below.
