Marco Melanson Piano Sonata 2 in G "The 1980's"

1st movt - New Wave: Allegro 2nd movt - Rubik's Cube: Adagio 3rd movt - 80's Fashion: Presto This sonata was written in 2001, though completed at the start of 2002. At the time of its composition, I was wanting to claim back my belonging to the 1980's after having completely forgotten about it for two years and to make that wonderful decade come back. The synthesizer-filled music, the neon colors, the tight fashion, the Rubik's Cube, the simple video games, the lovable TV shows and toys such as Care Bears, and the carefree attitude have marked my childhood so well that seeing the world in any other way is completely unrealistic. I finally had an explanation to why I so desperately wanted vinyl to come back and digital formats (both CD's and downloads) to die, after having spent two years wanting to forget about 80's music and listen exclusively to the then-current boyband pop! The widely-spaced chords at the beginning were inspired from learning that Thompson Twins' leader Tom Bailey liked John Cage. The rondo finale even has the markings "skin-tight" for the 1st episode, "with neon colors" for the 2nd episode, and "big hair" for the coda.
