Until Recently, My Golf Handicap Was So High, I Got Special Parking

My golf handicap was so bad that I would always feel bad when the round was done and the group would have to factor in my number and see what I'd really carded. How horrifying!

It got to the point where I would actually stop scoring myself and see if the other three guys would actually have the nerve to keep writing the number 8 on their cards.

"Another snowman for the big guy."

Here's the reason it was so embarrassing...I was the guy.

I was the guy you'd constantly see swinging the fake club while I did other things. Yes, I was him. He was me.

You'd see me tweaking my golf swing routine on line at the company cafeteria, on the escalator at the mall with my four boys, in the pew at church during a wedding (religiously).

Anywhere and everywhere, I was working through the dynamics of the entire swing everywhere I went.
Here's the tiny problem, though...I was doing it wrong.

Completely wrong. I suppose it'd be like training a dog and yelling at it to 'attack' while the older woman was trying to cross the busy street. Just wrong. While I thought I was making subtle golf swing improvements, I was actually teaching myself an incorrect golf swing.

So each and every time I would hit the tee, I would REPEAT the wrong swing and the ball would head off as if it had a mind and a compass of its own.

Muscle memory is a strange thing...it actually remembers.

This golf nightmare thankfully came to an end not too long ago when I found a golf training aid that WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO SWING WRONG. Like a straight jacket for a problem golfer (me) it holds the arms in and forces them to fold at the right moments.

It holds the power triangle formed by the arms and the waist and holds it all the way through the entire swing.

Truth be told, I'm still that guy. I'm still working on my swing when there isn't a flag stick in sight, but with my new Perfect Connextion, at least I'm doing it correctly.

So while my golf handicap has gone from a 19 to a 14 (27%!!!), my parking options have gone down too, all thanks to the Perfect Connextion.

Ane Brune Artist Review

Remember that little boy who sang that tune from The Snowman? Well, listening to this song by Ane Brun first reminded me of that. And now you might be thinking "oh dear...this really isn't for me." But don't skip the page. A sense of open-minded-ness is needed when hearing about Ane Brun. She has perfectly pitched vocals and sings predominantly high notes with a slight 'wobble'. Again, don't skip the page. It gets better.

Originally from Norway, Ane Brun is an artist you can imagine to have studied at a highly established music school, playing the violin in her spare time, standing next to a pianist playing twinkly tunes and singing along. She releases her music through her own label - Balloon Ranger Recordings. She also formed "DetErMine Records" - located in Stockholm, Sweden - with two fellow artists Wendy McNeill and The Tiny. Her discography includes four full-length records plus a live album, and she has been nominated for numerous awards including best Norwegian Act on MTV Music Awards, best Female Artist, and best Norwegian song of the century.

But enough of the facts and figures. Get your headphones out and listen to her song "The Puzzle". This is the one that should be encountered first. If there were a film made about her, this would be the first on the soundtrack.

At first impression it seems that this is music that couldn't be danced to, or nodded along to. But just as you start to feel smug about your quick analysis and good judgment, it is all washed away by what can only be described as the unbelievable chorus which gives the song its defining USP (or Unique Selling Point, for you non-businessy people). For the first time, you find yourself tapping your foot and swinging your head at an alarmingly fast rate to what you first thought would be 'background' classical music. Accompanied by xylophone, acoustic guitar, backing singers, and violins, Ane Brun manages to create this speedy tempo in the chorus which sets her miles apart from other musicians in her field. Truth be told, I believe she's created a new genre; a mix of classical, easy listening, and on some level, pop music.

If to talk about her music out-with this spectrum of musical description, it would be as "the post-Boxing Day feeling". A paradox of feeling low and dormant, but simultaneously happy to be alive and with family. The feeling that makes you forget all the negatives in life and all the worries, and just see the positives. If this is a feeling you want to experience again, then give Ane Brun a few minutes of your time. That's all she needs to blow you away. Quick summary I know, but I bet you're already considering looking on her MySpace page.

This camper is very heavy so my child does not carry it around she pushes it everywhere (she's 3). This camper has a couch that folds into a bed. The front seat rotates into a seat for the table. The table flips up into a television. The kitchen is accessed from the back door. Overall a very well built camper. I stitched the mattress shut because my three year old was pulling the foam out. The only thing that I think would make this camper better is if the top came off so children could play easier. The way it is built everything has to be reached through doors so the child must bend over or lay on their belly to see what is inside. Also this camper is empty it does not come with any accessories. A nice addition would be sleeping bags, a grill, lawn chairs but there are not any add ons to purchase.

My kids love playing with this but the ball comes apart alot when being tossed and timer stops if even slighltly twisted. Also if the ball is dropped the water balloon pops. I think it could have been designed better, so that the balloon didn't pop if dropped and so the ball would stay together when thrown.

My daughter received this toy as a gift for her 5th birthday, along with 100 water balloons! It is lots of fun, but requires Mom or Dad to spend 30 minutes filling up the balloons and teaching the kids how to put it all together, which is not easy. Since the balloon breaks when it is dropped, the kids get frustrated since no one gets splashed. The timer in ours broke as well from being dropped so now we have lots of water balloons. I'd forego the ball and just buy balloons!

Christmas Flower Pot Crafts

Crafting for the holidays is the most popular type of crafting there is. If you are looking for different projects for your holiday decor, think flower pot crafts. Turned upside down they become holiday characters for your tables or tree. With a little paint, a few odds and ends and a creative eye, an ordinary flower pot can be transformed into a snowman, reindeer, Santa Clause or a gingerbread man for Christmas.

These crafts can use an assortment of sizes to get the same look. The only preference is where and what you intend the finished project to be. The basic pattern for most all character is an upside down pot for the body and a wood bead for the head. Styrofoam balls may be substituted for the head.

Flower Pot Craft Characters

Snowman - Paint the entire pot white for the body and the wood ball white for the head. Glue the ball to the bottom of the flower pot. Make a stocking cap and scarf from a scrap of fabric and glue to the snowman. Dab pink paint lightly on the cheeks using a cotton swab. Dip dot black paint for the eyes and mouth using a paint brush handle. Dip dot orange paint for the nose using a paint brush handle and using a toothpick point, pull the orange dot to the side making a pointy carrot nose. Glue buttons down the front of the pot.

Reindeer - Paint the entire flower pot chocolate brown for the body and the wood ball chocolate brown for the head. Glue the ball to the bottom. Twist two pieces of pipe cleaners into antler shapes and hot glue to the back of the head. Cut two brown felt triangles and glue to the head for ears. Paint the eyes by dip dotting black paint and glue a red pom pom for a nose. String a miniature jingle bell on red ribbon and tie around the neck.

Santa Clause - Paint the entire pot body red and the wood ball head peach. Glue the wood ball to the flower pot bottom. Paint the eyes by dip dotting black paint using a toothpick point and the nose using red paint. Glue strips of white felt around the bottom rim and top edge of the pot for fur. Cut a black strip of felt and glue around the flower pot for a belt. Form a cone shaped hat from red felt and a white felt brim. Glue the hat to the head. Attach white doll hair around the face for the beard.

Gingerbread Man - Paint the entire pot body tan and the wood ball head tan. Glue the ball to the flower pot bottom. Glue miniature rick rack around the face. Start at the flower pot bottom, over the head and back down to the bottom. Glue more miniature white rick rack around the flower pot rim. Dab pink paint lightly on the cheeks using a cotton swab. Paint the eyes by dip dotting with black paint and using a paint brush handle. Using a black marker, draw a mouth and a small curved nose. Tie a small bow using scrap fabric and glue to the head. Glue two buttons down the front of the pot.

I bought this for my toddler so that she might get interested in walking. Well, she's still not walking but will sit down and push it back and forth like a vacuum. My preschooler does run around the house with it and has fun. Its very sturdy, the kind of toy you can pass down.

my 4 year old son stepped on the handle the first day we got it and it snapped in two, but the store called Plan (we had no receipt or box - it was a gift that had been taken out of the box) and they took it back and gave us either a new one or a different toy. we got a new one and my 1 year old plays with it all the time. It is loud but a pleasant noise.

Melting snowman

One of the signs that spring is here is the obvious change in the weather. The snow melts and the weather gets warmer. Why not make a craft that plays off of this idea of changing seasons, by making a melting snowman. Making a melting snowman is easy. All that you need are some small twigs, a black marker, glue, white paper and a couple of cotton balls. Take two cotton balls and gently stretch them so that they are a little bit more flat. Glue the two cotton balls in top of one another. For the base, cut out a piece of paper in a random circular pattern (it should look like melted snow). Glue on the base. Decorate the melting figure as you would a traditional snowman. On the top cotton ball, give the melting snowman eyes and a mouth by using your black marker. Break the twig down into two small arms and glue those in place. Display your melting snowman in the window or wherever else you feel he will be most appreciated.

This thing has the most annoying voice ever. I don't mind noise one bit from my child and his toys but this lady on here ... I want to ring her neck. Very nasal and high pitched and such an over actor! AAAACK!

Educational... it's okay. It taught my baby cause and effect. The lights send him in to a fit though. After about 10 minutes of play I have to take it away cause he starts crying.

I love the optional modes, one is learning mode, the other is music mode. I love the songs side. The hammer has a tiny rattle in it that stimulates the ears so my infant bangs everything with it now.

We could really have done without this toy. We received it as a gift so it wasn't a waste for us. When the batteries die, I will not be replacing them.

This toy is really cute, but failed to live up to expectations.

I find the songs catchy and enjoy them, and my son loves it when I sing along for him. He pulls this off of his shelf and plays with it for a couple of minutes, but he doesn't want to play with it very often and I don't think he'll still be interested in it six months from now.

I actually agree with both previous reviewers. Both were accurate in their assessment of the toy. But with that said, I believe this toy is great for play with parent and child. It's true that it takes too much force to pull, pound or slide anything on this toy for a child. But with a parent helping I think it's lots of fun. I myself, don't think I have every been able to hit the nails with the hammer and get anything out of them. Instead I just press them and have my son do it as well. Bottom line, if you are looking for a "play alone" toy, this isn't it. If you are looking for a "let's play together" toy, this is worth the money.

Our son has actually had this toy since age three months. It fascinated him in the store and we used to press it to keep his attention on the changing table. Through many stages, he can finally actually use it at 11 months as it was intended (though his hammer is his favorite). He has slammed it on the floor, and done endless things to make me conclude this toy is invinsible. I would suggest buying it for a younger child who can grow into it. I wouldn't necessarily find it that stimulating for a three year old.
